From Shonda Rhimes to Issa Rae and more, Black creatives have been reeling in the wake of Trump taking over the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. As it turns out, the room where it happens will not be in the John F.

In February, Trump became chairman of the institution and ousted Democratic members of the Kennedy Center Board. The contract of Kennedy Center president Deborah F. Rutter was terminated, as was that of chairman David M. Rubenstein, after Trump had previously said he would fire the latter and install himself as chair.

The cancellation was a sharply worded rebuke to Trump's takeover, part of his blitz of policy changes that are upending the city and the country as he attacks people, causes and policies that he describes as being too liberal.
