Federal prosecutors have asked a court to reconsider its decision to allow former Minnesota Sen. Justin Eichorn to leave jail, citing concerns that the ex-public official lied to authorities after being charged in an underage sex sting.

After a Minnesota state senator resigned this week over allegations he sought sex from a minor, candidates are announcing their intentions to run for his vacant seat.

Justin Eichorn, 40, was arrested by Bloomington Police on Monday after they said they had communication with the state senator. Eichorn gained national headlines earlier this week after he co-authored a bill in the Minnesota Senate wanting to define "Trump derangement syndrome" as a mental illness.
