Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been turned over to the custody of the International Criminal Court

At the age of 79, then President Rodrigo Duterte would become the first former Asian leader to be tried before the International Criminal Court (ICC). Mr. Duterte traveled to The Hague in the Netherlands shortly after law enforcers in the country arrested and detained him at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Monday,

I said this already, that I will protect you, and I will be responsible for everything," Duterte said. His remarks were his first since being put on a plane to The Hague. Duterte was taken into custody by the ICC on Wednesday following his arrest in Manila on murder charges linked to his "war on drugs" in which thousands of purported dealers and users were killed.
