IKEA, the internationally known Swedish furniture store, announced Thursday a new location will open later this spring in San Marcos. However, the store won’t look like a typical IKEA location.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — IKEA is bringing a new, smaller concept to booming Central Texas.

The popular Texas brand said goodbye to this college town on Monday. Planet K Gifts closed its San Marcos retail shop on Monday, February 17, according to an email to its San Marcos customers.

The store between San Antonio and Austin will be Ikea's ninth location in Texas but the first of the company's small-format stores to open in the state.
