WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Four sailors from the USS North Carolina submarine are in North Carolina to continue to bring awareness of the state’s namesake, active-duty submarine.

The nuclear powered USS North Carolina submarine is manned by four sailors and was commissioned in Wilmington in 2008.

The 1960′s was a monumental decade for WECT and for Wilmington. The USS North Carolina was berthed in Wilmington, New Hanover Memorial Hospital was built, and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge opened.
