Hyundai is teaming up with Yandex spinoff Avride to jointly develop fully driverless cars for autonomous ridehailing, the companies announced today. The partnership will enable Avride to deploy 100 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUVs retrofitted with autonomous driving technology this year.

Avride has partnered with Hyundai Motor Co to expand its fleet of robotaxis, and signed a deal with the South Korean automaker to jointly develop and operate self-driving vehicles, the companies said on Wednesday.

Hyundai Motor Company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Yandex spinoff Avride to accelerate autonomous mobility. Under the partnership, both the firms will jointly develop and operate vehicles capable of fully autonomous driving.

As soon as later this year, Uber customers in Dallas may have the opportunity to order a ride with a Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxi operating self-driving tech from Austin-based Avride.

Hyundai and Avride have entered into a partnership to build robotaxis together. The first vehicles are to be deployed this year.
