Nevada residents are kicking off 2025 with a special election. Longtime city councilman Brian Hanson was appointed and sworn in to be Nevada’s next mayor in January, but a petition was filed for a special election for the open mayoral position as well as the Ward 2 seat on the council.

Ryan Condon is Nevada's new mayor and Luke Spence will fill the Ward 2 council seat, according to unofficial results from the Story County Auditor's Office.

The plan for the old hospital in Nevada was to erect 60 apartments, but residents vocally opposed the project and stopped it in its tracks.

Two men were taken by helicopter to a hospital after a crash in Nevada on Tuesday. Police say it happened at around 3:15 p.m. near West Lincoln Highway and Osage Drive. There was one vehicle involved in the crash. Firefighters extricated the two men from the vehicle. Both were taken by medical helicopter to a local hospital.
