STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The fatal shooting of an armed 55-year-old man by police, following a standoff in the parking lot of a Charleston shopping complex, has shaken Staten Island’s South Shore community.
The armed man was inside a black Jeep Wrangler around 5:20 a.m. when he called 911 on himself from the parking lot just outside the Home Depot within the Bricktown Center at Charleston shopping
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A major police response in underway at an outdoor shopping mall in Charleston on Thursday morning. Unconfirmed emergency radio communications indicate that shots were fired in the 2700 block of Veterans Road West around 5:30 a.m. A large number of NYPD vehicles and personnel have responded to the parking lot.
Police said they were looking for the man, as well as a group of teenagers who they say robbed several for-hire drivers in Manhattan.
