Driverless Uber rides now challenging Elon Musk’s Tesla in its backyard
Tesla plans to launch an autonomous vehicle ride-sharing service this summer. If Tesla botches the launch, it could lose a lot of money or turn away potential customers entirely. There's a lot of risk in buying the stock at its current price.
Uber's CEO says they would "love to partner" with Tesla, but instead will likely find themselves competitors.
The move is a key step by the company to begin carrying paying customers while its traditional car-selling business falters.
Despite Uber's experience or position as one of the pre-eminent players in rideshare, Elon Musk and Tesla shot down the company's offers to collaborate.
The robotaxi space will heat up this year with both Uber and Tesla planning to launch their autonomous services in the coming months. Tesla plans to launch its own ride-hailing service and Uber has partnered with Waymo.
CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, stated that Elon Musk has no plans to integrate Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA)'s forthcoming robotaxis into Uber's platform.
"Life is long, but we would love to partner with them," Dara Khosrowshahi said on Friday about Tesla's Cybercabs.
