The painting, a valuable copy on reverse glass of a well-known image painted by American artist Gilbert Stuart, was turned over to Englewood police after a tip to Crime Stoppers.

A historic 200-year-old painting of President George Washington stolen from a storage unit last year was recently recovered, according to the Englewood Police Department.

On Jan. 22, 2024, Englewood Police received a report about a theft from a storage facility in the 3300 block of South Santa Fe Drive. An early 1800s painting of George Washington, the nation's first president, was among items taken. Police said the theft may have occurred nearly two weeks earlier on Jan. 10, 2024.
