After a period of off-and-on rainy weather to start the spring season, a large stretch of Texas could see severe thunderstorms with hail and damaging winds possible over the weekend. Forecasters with the National Weather Service wrote the storm threat is strongest east of Interstate 35 in North Texas,

A First Alert Weather Day is in place for Friday due to more widespread rain in the forecast, along with some embedded thunderstorms.
Hickman Road from 53rd Street to 56th Street is closed to allow MidAmerican Energy to repair multiple power poles that were knocked loose due to high winds, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department. Poles are leaning over the street and wires are in the roadway, according to the release.
The multiday severe weather threat will develop in the Midwest and South this weekend and then spread toward the East Coast by Monday. Destructive straight-line winds, large hail and strong tornadoes are all potential threats.
A strong cluster of storms will move through the area Sunday night into early Monday morning and bring damaging winds, heavy rain and hail is also possible.
