Coaches around the Big Sky Conference are filling out and submitting all-conference ballots for the just-concluded men’s and women’s basketball seasons and, as usual, there will be some tough votes to cast.

They’re calling the Big Sky Conference tournament Starch Madness because it’s in Boise. Apparently it’s a potato reference. Kind of clever. Maybe not? Anyway, the Idaho State men’s and women’s teams look to make some noise in the postseason beginning Monday at Idaho Central Arena.

Weber State women’s basketball overcame missed free throws, shooting struggles and surrendering a big overtime run to steal a 68-67 win Monday night at Northern Colorado, giving the Wildcats 10 Big Sky victories for a fourth-place finish.

Guard Jaron Rillie scored a team-high 24 points, including 11 of the Bears’ 24 points in a sluggish first half to lead UNC to its first Big Sky title since the 2010-11 season.

Jaron Rillie had 24 points to lead Northern Colorado to a 68-63 victory over Weber State on Monday night in a Big Sky Conference regular-season finale, earning the Bears a share of the regular-season title.

None of Idaho’s points were more impactful than the four Mitchell scored 25 seconds into overtime when he was fouled by Weber State’s Trevor Hennig while sinking a 3-pointer. Mitchell also collected the free throw to give the Vandals a quick 76-72 lead in the extra period.
