On Monday, the U.S. Secretary of the Interior officially renamed the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge after Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old Houston girl who was murdered last year.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the convention center, which will be located in Valley Ranch, is coming almost three years after EMCID officials announced the project in April 2022.
