The New York Yankees are seemingly unlikely to trade for Dylan Cease from the San Diego Padres after losing Gerrit Cole to injury.

To make things worse, they planned on trading one of their top pitchers. Cease was placed on the trade block for a while, but it seems like things have slowed down. The Padres still have an eye open for their pitcher. The New York Mets were one of the teams behind Cease, but things fell apart.

The San Diego Padres have been very proactive on the trade market in recent years; for example, instead of letting Juan Soto head into free agency and try and keep him by engaging in the biggest bidding war the league has ever seen,
