Oct 26, 2017 · Hi. I just wish to share my experience with all. I am 47 year old male.I did a total rupture on my Achilles tendon. Surgery took place the following day. I was put in a cast with four heel raisers and given a set of crutches. Was released from hospital the following day after surgery. I was prescribed blood thinning tablets and pain killers.

Oct 6, 2016 · This is very informative. I am about to have surgery. Achilles is still attached but a bone spur has formed at the attachment and is now broken. Bone is embedded in tendon continuing to damage the tendon. Options are wearing a brace or boot indefinitely. Eventually it will wear through the tendon.

Jul 15, 2019 · I used to limp a lot. In basic terms the point where the achilles tendon inserted to the heel bone was significantly calcified and the tendon was damaged but not ruptured. The surgeon had to cut away the excess bone and repair the damaged area of the tendon. Post surgery for 3 weeks no weight bearing.

Jun 11, 2017 · i am a 59 year male 4 weeks post surgery for insertional Achilles tendanities. Part of the tendon was cleaned and repaired whilst the bone spurs were removed. I made good recovery at home. The doctor wanted me to wear a boot hence no cast was used. I was non weight bearing for 3 weeks and thereafter 10% weight bearing.

My surgeon told me primary purpose of boot and downward toe position was to protect Achilles repair early on.

Hello, I just saw this thread today and thought I would jump in. I had surgery at the end of January 2017 for a torn Achilles tendon (not severed, and diagnosed via MRI)) and removal of a calcaneous heel spur which was causing the Achilles tear. I did the usual 10-14 days non- weight bearing, then PWB, and finally total weight bearing routine.

Waiting time for Achilles tendon surgery on the NHS?
Thanks Jane. I decided on surgery because i) it was a complete rupture, ii) recovery time appeared to be quicker, iii) there was a lower risk of re-rupture. This was based on what the nurse-practitioner told me and what I googled while waiting. I'm still of the same opinion now, except that surgery will probably cost me time.
