Feb 11, 2023 · Heavenly’s entire mountain can be explored via blue runs. Northstar requires more black trails to access Backside and Lookout areas of the resort. Northstar blue runs felt easier on my legs after a day of skiing - probably due to its well groomed runs.

The front side of the mountain is set up traditionally, with a lower area for beginners, and a mix of expert and intermediate terrain off the top. For us, the best part was the back side of the mountain, which features mostly black diamonds.

The views of Lake Tahoe and the desert to the east are spectacular. There are 3 gates that provide easy access to some great sidecountry, with the firebreak gate providing 3000′ vertical of “lift served sidecountry” (if there is such a thing) via the gondola.

Heavenly has a famous aerial tram that connects the town of South Lake Tahoe to the mountain. Located on the California side right by Highway 50, the Heavenly gondola stretches 2.4 miles up into the sky, hoisting you directly above the blue lake.

The Heavenly ski area is located along the south shore of Lake Tahoe and presents to you a view northward along the length of the lake with the surrounding mountains located snugly along its shore.
