Fairfield County Ohio has 47 places on the National Register of Historic Places including 1 place of National significance and 13 places of Statewide significance. Historic Places: Sherman, John, Birthplace, Blacklick Covered Bridge, Bright, John, Covered Bridge, Concord Hall and Hizey Covered Bridge.

This district contains the largest concentration of historic and architecturally significant properties in the City and include such notable buildings as the Sherman House, the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, Fairfield County Courthouse, Lancaster, City Hall and the Georgian as well as numerous private homes, businesses and churches.

The Sherman House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Civil War Preservation Trail and has been a memorial to the family since 1951. It, along with Georgian Museum, is owned and operated by the Fairfield County Heritage Association.

The Georgian Museum is located in one of Lancaster’s three National Historic Districts, and exemplifies early 19th century American craftsmanship. Built originally for Samuel and Sarah Maccracken in 1832 by local builder Daniel Sifford, the home of brick and native sandstone embodies features of both Federal and Greek Revival architecture.
