The Kildonan Museum and Cultural Centre in South Uist is a heritage and cultural amenity which includes a museum, a craft shop, a Fèis room for ceilidhs, music and dance, a café and an archaeology room.

Kildonan Museum holds over 10,000 items related to the social, domestic and cultural history of South Uist. During the 1950’s and 1960’s the late Father John Morrison, parish priest of Iochdar in South Uist collected nearly 700 items representing the cultural identity of South Uist.

Kildonan is a crofting township on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The small settlement of Kildonan lies on the west coast of South Uist and is situated amongst typical Hebridean loch and machair landscape. Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald was born half a mile south of Kildonan.

Kildonan Museum is situated on the main road that runs through South Uist. If you arrive by ferry to Lochboisdale then it is approximately 7 miles north past Daliburgh. If you arrive in Eriskay then it is approximately 15 miles to the north.

South Uist Historical Society was founded in 1989 and is based at Kildonan Museum on the Isle of South Uist. Their museum hosts a permanent exhibition relating to the island, much of which is based around items collected by the late Canon John Morrison of Iochdar.

A very interesting place to visit to discover old Uist. You can easily spend a couple of hours in here looking at and reading about the various displays and learming about the history of Uist.

Kildonan Museum lies on the main road that runs the length of South Uist, about 7 miles north of Lochboisdale. The name in Gaelic is "Taigh-tasgaidh Chill Donnain".
