Yato (夜 (や) ト (と) , Yato?), also known by his given name, Yaboku (夜 (や) 卜 (ぼく) , Yaboku?), is one of the main three protagonists of Noragami. He is an obscure god who aims to become a God of Fortune.[1]

Yato first met Sakura under a cherry blossom tree when she asked Yato to give her a name and learned about her human past, something he didn't experience with Nora. Their short relationship was a happy and life-changing experience for Yato, which ended abruptly when she transformed into a Karma Ayakashi.

One day, a high school girl named Hiyori Iki saves Yato from an oncoming bus, but ends up getting hit herself. The incident causes her soul to become loose from her body, leading her to experience an out-of-body existence.

Yato is the titular stray god of the series (Noragami) who wants to build his own shrine. In the past, he was a god of calamity (禍津神, magatsukami). He wears a tracksuit and scarf and refers to himself as "Yato God" (Yatogami).

Yato is a god who attempts to build his own shrine. He wears a jersey and a so-called "fluffy-wuffy scarf," and refers to himself as "Yato God" (Yatogami). When his current Shinki (Divine Weapon) quit, he was unarmed until he met Hiyori and Yukine.

Nora is a stray shinki, which strongly suggests that the title Noragami means Stray God (with gami meaning god). Because of the combination of fictional elements and indications that Yato is an unimportant god, he is most likely fictional or even partly fictional like in Ebisu's case.
